Nikeya endures a solitary climb to the High Temple on Mount Ipyeda, grieving Dumai and the devastation in Seiiki. She meets Unora and the reclusive Grand Empress, recounts Taugran’s fall, the blinding comet, and her fruitless search along Muysima, then returns Dumai’s glowing relic to the last Noziken.

Challenged about ambition and her father’s manipulations, Nikeya affirms she sought Dumai, not a throne. The Grand Empress rejects perpetuating the Noziken line’s burdens and, citing Epabo’s account of Nikeya defying the River Lord, urges a new order. She asks Nikeya to lead, believing fire must rise in the Age of Starlight.

Nikeya accepts with humility, refusing imperial styles to rule as Dowager Queen and Warlord. She pledges strength against any returning wyrms. The Grand Empress agrees to intercede with Tukupa the Silver, while Unora will support the transition and summon the Council of State at Ginura.

In ruined Antuma Palace, godsingers shatter the Rainbow Throne; Tukupa watches, awakened by the comet. Nikeya proposes honoring Dumai by training war orphans as riders so the gods are known beyond one house. The Grand Empress counsels patience and hints the dead may yet guide the living.

Nikeya establishes court in Ginura, wins confirmation from surviving councillors, and plans gradual reform while balancing rival clans. She claims a crest that honors Noziken and Dumai, vowing to hunt sleeping wyrms and cure the red sickness. Alone at night, she mourns Dumai and steels herself to lead.

Months later, a veiled new Maiden Officiant visits Nikeya privately, leaves a gold-butterfly comb, and invites future counsel. After she departs, Nikeya proceeds to a sacred rite: Tukupa has brought long-hidden eggs to Ginura. In the gods’ sight, Nikeya touches the smallest egg, which cracks under her hand, heralding Seiiki’s renewal.
