Wulf
Overview
Wulf, healing in Langarth and choosing a life with Thrit, is approached by Siyu with two missions from the Priory: hide a dangerous key and gain a place in Glorian’s court. In Ascalun, Glorian knights Wulf and accepts Siyu into her household. Wulf and Siyu secretly cache the key in the Sanctuary’s false tomb, tightening ties between Inys and the Priory while confirming Canthe’s betrayal.
Summary
At Langarth, Wulf wakes beside Thrit and reflects on choosing love after long grief. He recalls aiding Einlek Ironside in Hróth after the wars, rebuilding and burning the dead, and trusting Glorian to protect their secret daughter, Sabran. In the garden, Siyu uq‑Nāra arrives with news: the Priory now hunts sleeping wyrms; Esbar and Tunuva slew Dedalugun; and, crucially, Canthe was the witch who stole Wulf from Meren. Siyu, injured at Nzene, brings two requests—hide an iron box containing a key Canthe seeks, and secure her a place near Glorian to protect Sabran.
Wulf proposes hiding the box in the Sanctuary of the Sacred Damsel’s false tomb. He agrees to help place Siyu at court. They travel to Ascalun, still ravaged by fire, where the Queen has gathered candidates for knighthood.
In the throne room, Wulf sees Lady Florell Glade holding baby Sabran. Glorian, scarred and resolute, knights Wulf for saving the princess and offers a boon. Wulf requests that Siyu—presented as a noble convert—be admitted to the royal household. Glorian consents, positioning Siyu to serve and safeguard Sabran within the Queens’ Tower.
After nightfall, Wulf and Siyu enter the ruined Sanctuary. Discussing the erasure of the Damsel, they reach the false tomb, where Siyu hides the iron box for the Priory’s future retrieval. They part as siblings of the Priory, Wulf casting aside his ceremonial girdle and planning to travel with Thrit, while hoping one day to return to the Priory.
