Overview
Tunuva tells Esbar that Siyu has fled toward Sadyrr, triggering an urgent pursuit. Esbar secures Saghul’s approval and recruits Apaya as guide to the Harmur Pass. The trio departs via Yikala with ichneumons, aiming to intercept Siyu before Mentendon, while refusing to enter Virtudom.
Summary
Tunuva rushes to Esbar and admits that Siyu has fled. Esbar calms Tunuva, promises they will not lose Siyu, and commits to informing Saghul. Tunuva battles memories of past loss as the ichneumons Ninuru and Jeda try to comfort her.
After briefing Saghul, Esbar returns with a plan to ride across the Ersyr. She notes they may need horses north of the Harmur Pass, where ichneumons and mages would draw attention. Tunuva reports Siyu aimed for the port of Sadyrr, and Esbar insists she knows someone who can guide them.
Tunuva hastily dons trader clothing and readies supplies, intent on swift pursuit. At the fig-root passage, Esbar arrives with Jeda and provisions—and introduces their guide, Apaya du Eadaz uq-Nāra, newly arrived to report to the Prioress.
Apaya, seasoned and resolute, agrees to lead them to the Harmur Pass but refuses to enter Virtudom. She urges speed in case Siyu reaches Mentendon. With Ninuru and Jeda mounted, the three set out, first for Yikala, determined to intercept Siyu before she can escape by sea.
