SATURDAY: Four
Overview
Exhausted after a late-night rescue of Cara, Pip spends a routine day before being interrupted by Connor’s panicked visit. He reveals his brother is missing, abruptly shifting Pip’s focus from trial updates to a potential new investigation. The chapter raises immediate stakes and sets the next mystery in motion.
Summary
Pip dozes on the living room sofa while looking after Josh, Toy Story playing in the background as her parents work in the garden. She checks her phone and sees a grateful text from Cara, reminding Pip of the previous night’s emergency: retrieving a severely drunk Cara from a party after fears about spiked drinks.
The morning after, Pip takes Josh to football, then records and uploads a mini episode about the Max Hastings trial with Ravi, before tackling emails and website updates. She sits to rest and unintentionally falls asleep again.
The doorbell wakes Pip. Expecting another delivery, she follows the household’s new rule to use the chain before opening the door. Instead of a courier, Connor stands there, flushed and sweating, having run over after missed calls.
Pip brings Connor into the kitchen, gives him water, and asks what’s wrong. Struggling to speak, Connor finally explains the reason for his panic: his brother is missing. The revelation transforms a quiet afternoon into the start of a new, urgent problem.
