Overview
Pip questions Nat da Silva and learns Jamie abruptly left the memorial after spotting “someone,” never arriving at Nat’s. Luke Eaton denies going out that night, prompting a suspicious reaction from Nat.
After announcing season two, Pip receives a time-stamped photo showing Jamie looking away from the lanterns, fixated on someone, sharpening the investigation’s main lead.
Summary
Pip visits Nat da Silva at Luke Eaton’s house to ask about Jamie Reynolds. Nat confirms Jamie planned to go to her parents’ house after the memorial but never arrived or texted. At the memorial, Jamie told Nat, “I’ve just seen someone,” then pushed through the crowd and left.
Luke insists Jamie is likely fine and says he never left the house Friday. Nat’s fleeting, uneasy reaction to Luke’s claim catches Pip’s attention before Nat ends the conversation and forces Pip to leave.
Outside, Pip’s scheduled announcement for season two goes live, making Jamie’s disappearance public. She receives emails, including memorial photos from Stanley Forbes and a message from neighbor Gail Yardley with a photo of Jamie at 8:26 p.m., ten minutes after Pip last saw him.
The photo shows everyone watching the lanterns except Jamie, who looks the opposite way, focused and concerned at someone behind the camera. Pip cross-references other images but cannot identify the person. She concludes the key lead is discovering who Jamie saw, which likely diverted him from Nat and set the night’s events in motion.
