Overview
Pip confronts DI Hawkins at Amersham Police Station to push a higher-risk classification for missing Jamie Reynolds. Hawkins refuses, citing limited resources and an active child abduction case.
After seeking reassurance from Ravi, Pip resolves to investigate Jamie’s disappearance herself and calls Connor to commit.
Summary
Pip arrives at Amersham Police Station determined to escalate Jamie Reynolds’s missing-person case. She waits briefly, spotting officers Daniel da Silva and Soraya Bouzidi heading out, a sign of other priorities. DI Richard Hawkins grants her two minutes and takes her into an interview room.
Pip argues Jamie is at risk, citing her gut feeling and familiarity with him. Hawkins dismisses family and subjective hunches, explains resource constraints and prioritization, and notes Jamie is an adult whose mother says his absence isn’t out of character. He emphasizes a current high-risk priority: an abducted eight-year-old, and refuses to reclassify Jamie’s case.
Desperate, Pip pleads not to be forced into another investigation like before. Hawkins reiterates he cannot help. Outside in the rain, Pip struggles with the decision, then calls Ravi for guidance. Ravi refuses to decide for her but promises support regardless of her choice.
Bolstered by Ravi’s faith in her judgment, Pip accepts that she’s already chosen. She calls Connor Reynolds and commits to taking on Jamie’s case, telling him, “I’ll do it.”
