MONDAY 3 DAYS MISSING: Sixteen

Overview

In history class, Pip receives a video placing Jamie at the party and identifying Stella as the girl he followed. At lunch, Stella explains Jamie called her “Leila,” seeming to know her. Pip deduces Jamie was catfished by someone using Stella’s photos, clarifying his behavior before he disappeared.

Summary

During Monday history class, Pip covertly reviews new party submissions and opens a video from Hannah Revens timestamped 9:49 p.m. In the clip, Jamie in a burgundy shirt crosses the living room and taps Stella Chapman on the shoulder, just as Stella turns away from the fireplace area.

Pip shows the video to Connor in the hallway and they recognize Stella. They decide to question her at lunch to learn why Jamie followed her from the memorial to the party.

By Stella’s locker, Pip steers her into an empty classroom. Connor’s presence makes Stella uneasy, so Pip sends him away and starts recording. Stella says she doesn’t know Jamie and Friday was their first interaction.

Stella recounts Jamie tapping her and repeatedly calling her “Leila,” insisting, “It’s me, Jamie,” mentioning she’d “changed” her hair, and asking why she was at a high-school party. Frightened and confused, Stella told him to leave her alone and walked away; Jamie looked crushed and didn’t follow.

Pip probes Stella’s social media habits and follower count, then concludes Jamie had been speaking online to a catfish using Stella’s photos under the name Leila, likely claiming to be older. Pip infers Jamie spotted Stella at the memorial, mistook her for Leila, and only realized the deception at the party—just before his disappearance.
