Overview
Pip reveals herself to Stanley and hears his full account: Layla catfished both him and Jamie, coercing Jamie to attack using the “Child Brunswick” code. Stanley detained a concussed Jamie while they sought Layla. Pip’s allies’ break-in triggers a silent alarm, ending Stanley’s anonymity. Charlie Green arrives, confiscates Pip’s phone, and produces a gun, escalating the danger.
Summary
Pip tells Stanley she is not Layla and promises not to expose his identity. Stanley, panicked and ashamed, asks what she wants; Pip says she only wants to save Jamie. When asked if he hurt Jamie, Stanley insists Jamie tried to kill him.
Stanley recounts that Layla contacted him via the Kilton Mail, then moved to texts. On Friday, Layla arranged a meeting at the farmhouse; Jamie arrived instead, breathless, said “Child Brunswick,” and attacked with a knife. In the struggle, Stanley disarmed Jamie and knocked him into a tree, likely concussing him. Fearing exposure and losing his rebuilt life, Stanley took Jamie home, locked him in the downstairs toilet, destroyed his phone, and passed him supplies through a chained door.
Talking through the door, Stanley learned Layla had also catfished Jamie: she claimed illness, extracted £1,200, made him steal a watch and assault someone, and finally urged him to kill a supposed stalker by testing two men with the “Child Brunswick” phrase. Jamie confirmed Layla is a woman he spoke to by phone. Stanley and Jamie agreed to find Layla together; Stanley sought Hillary F. Weiseman’s grave and listened to Pip’s episodes, concluding Jamie wasn’t Layla.
Stanley expresses remorse for past actions and coverage of Sal Singh, wanting only a quiet life. Pip promises secrecy and suggests they will find Layla. She mentions Ravi and Connor are freeing Jamie at Stanley’s house; Stanley reveals his windows trigger a silent police alarm, meaning his cover is finished.
Footsteps interrupt them. Charlie Green enters, appears friendly, and asks to borrow Pip’s phone. After pocketing it, Charlie demands Stanley’s phone as well. When Stanley hesitates, Charlie draws a gun and points it at him, ordering compliance, abruptly escalating the threat.
