Summary
Passing the Bells’ house, Pip locks eyes with Jason Bell through the window, his hostile look reminding her of the town’s fraught history. She and Ravi continue uphill to the church to test a Reddit theory that “left” in Jamie’s note meant the left side of the churchyard.
They search for Hillary F. Weiseman’s grave, debating whether Natalie da Silva or Tom Nowak lied about Jamie’s movements. Split up, Ravi locates the grave in a sheltered corner, which Pip notes would be ideal for a secret meeting. Near it, they find an old bouquet with a card: “Dear Mum… Love from Mary, Harry and Joe.”
Stanley Forbes unexpectedly arrives, saying he’s there to see the vicar. When Pip asks, he identifies the names: Mary Scythe, a volunteer at the paper, and her sons Harry and Joe.
