Overview
Shaken by Max’s acquittal, Pip’s anger erupts at school. She publicly confronts Tom Nowak for fabricating a Jamie sighting and humiliates him, triggering hallway whispers.
Cara shows Pip a WiredRip article accusing Pip of staging Jamie’s disappearance for podcast clout, escalating public suspicion and jeopardizing her investigation.
Summary
Pip carries the echo of Natalie’s scream into school, arriving late to history and suppressing her fury when Mr Clark chastises her. She joins Connor for lunch, both numbed by Max’s acquittal, and finds their friends. Ant and Lauren admit they skipped the search, provoking Pip’s anger.
Spotting Tom Nowak, Pip confronts him in the cafeteria. She lays out how Tom exploited her reactions to invent a sighting near Cross Lane, accusing him of manipulating her for attention. As students watch, Pip’s rage peaks; she upends his open Coke over his head and warns him not to cross her.
Afterward, whispers follow Pip through the halls. Meeting Cara by English, Pip learns of a WiredRip article linked on the Jamie search event. The piece alleges, via an unnamed source, that Pip, Cara, and Jamie staged his disappearance to generate a sensational podcast and money.
The story reframes public perception against Pip, threatening her credibility and the search for Jamie just as tensions within her friend group and the town are already stretched by the acquittal and the stalled investigation.
