Summary
Thirteen months before, Charly grows frustrated with Clark’s laziness and messiness after their honeymoon. Concerned about his inertia and finances, she searches listings and effectively bankrolls a modest shared office in Brooklyn Heights. Clark credits her as his inspiration while delaying real client outreach.
Charly’s anxiety spikes as she keeps thinking she sees former patient Stan Leroy. On a food run, a man in line stares, but he turns out to be Kenneth Landers, who worked with Clark. In casual talk, Kenneth reveals Clark was fired from Gregory and Patterson over a year ago and infamous for his “last day,” contradicting what Clark told Charly.
Reeling, Charly returns home and confronts Clark. Pressed, Clark admits he was terminated for poor performance and, in anger, orchestrated a reveal of partner Patterson’s affair to the partner’s wife, which led to Clark being blackballed citywide.
