Overview
Leto receives Bene Gesserit Truthsayers Anteac and Luyseyal at False Sietch, exposes their concealed spice-essence gambit, and confiscates it. He debates their fears of an Ixian predictive machine, refuses alliance, yet grants a decade of unchanged spice.
When Duncan reports citywide raids, Leto precisely directs counter-ambushes, demands survivors, and orders human predators to replace his lost wolves, reaffirming his orchestration of conflict.
Summary
On Audience Day’s night, Leto reviews Moneo’s report: the new Duncan questioned the flogging and is attracted to Hwi Noree. Leto orders barriers to prevent any liaison and sends Duncan to scour Onn for trouble. He chooses False Sietch for a meeting with a Bene Gesserit delegation.
Reverend Mothers Anteac and Luyseyal arrive with attendants. Leto greets them in Jessica’s voice, senses menace, and draws them close. They probe his nature and propose community; he rejects alliance, stressing the value of conflict and the Sisterhood’s role in suppressing incompatibles. He reveals aspects of his evolving brain to unsettle and divert them.
Leto detects spice-essence on Luyseyal and forces its surrender, revealing their mistaken belief it would poison a sandworm. They warn of an Ixian project they fear—an abominable machine to predict Leto. He redirects their reasoning, distinguishing automation from adaptive intelligence, ridicules their reliance on tools, and refuses to be their Oracle. Yet he rewards them: a decade of unchanged spice allotment and amnesty for the attempt.
Duncan arrives reporting coordinated raids across Onn and the Forbidden Forest. Leto identifies the attackers as predators hunting his wolves and issues exact ambush plans, personnel, and timings, ordering a survivor left at each site. After Duncan departs, Leto links the unrest to his earlier public punishment and instructs Moneo to replace his slain forest wolves with human wolves, reaffirming his preference for predators over prey.
