Holy Sister Quintinius Violet Chenoeh recounts a brief run beside Leto II, recorded per his instruction and concealed from her official report. She asks how Leto and his twin Ghanima survived ancestral memory awakening in the womb. Leto calls this state Abomination and says they survived by allying with powerful pharaonic-model ancestors, forming stabilized internal identities.

Noting that Chenoeh listens and will obey, Leto says they will not meet again, then invites her to consider his “insane tyranny.” He dictates a testimony for posterity: he accepts being remembered as a tyrant but insists tyrants have motives. He distinguishes a god from leaders and guides, claiming gods accept everything and nothing, possess their spirits within, and remain both identifiable and anonymous.

Leto warns that truth is dangerous and that words, with their ambiguity, both conceal and transmit truths. He cautions that his journals and recorded words can rule the forgetful, and reveals his core mystery: the only enduring past lies wordlessly within. Chenoeh asks if he is about to die; Leto laughs and predicts instead that she will die before becoming a Reverend Mother, yet be woven into his myth and prayed to by distant descendants.

Chenoeh feels an ineffable bond—Leto’s “wordless truth.” An archivists’ note explains this record’s later discovery, highlighting an early reference to Leto’s secret journals and confirming Chenoeh died from melange incompatibility during her attempt to become a Reverend Mother.
