Overview
Two female detectives arrive and request Elsie come to the station about Ishaan Patel’s death. Despite advice to refuse, Elsie agrees, curious about “updates.”
Neighbors witness the scene; Roxanne offers support, Joan unexpectedly helps with logistics, and Nugget goes with Roxanne and Persephone, underscoring rising scrutiny and community stakes.
Summary
In the afternoon, Elsie, Libby, and Adeem prepare to resume their interview when a knock sounds. Expecting Persephone home from school, Elsie initially ignores it, until two plainclothes officers announce themselves as Detective Inspector Lise Carlaw and Detective Sarah Wills.
The detectives ask Elsie to come to the station regarding Ishaan Patel’s death. Libby reminds Elsie she isn’t under arrest, and Adeem argues her health should preclude pressure. Despite this, Elsie chooses to go, wanting to hear the detectives’ “updates.”
Outside, neighbors watch as Elsie approaches the marked police car. Roxanne asks to accompany her, but Elsie refuses, concerned about Persephone’s care. Joan unexpectedly offers to watch Persephone, which Elsie declines; instead, Roxanne and Persephone agree to take Nugget.
As Detective Wills opens the car door, Joan offers to inform Peter of the situation. Elsie, usually reluctant to burden him, accepts the help. She then leaves with the detectives for the station.
