Chapter 42
Overview
Libby and Adeem arrive to continue filming, and Elsie, recovering from the clinic attack, agrees to let them use the footage. They begin a recorded interview focused on Elsie’s father, where Elsie clarifies his cruelty was psychological, not physical. The session sets the stage for deeper revelations about her past.
Summary
In the morning, Libby arrives composed while Adeem shows up disheveled. Elsie hosts them, serving coffee to Adeem without sugar and refusing to brew Libby’s loose-leaf tea, which Libby prepares herself. They move to the round table, ready to resume the documentary work after the recent attack.
Adeem raises the idea of using the clinic assault footage in the show. Despite Libby’s caution, Elsie agrees, quipping about being a sideshow. This confirms the production’s plan to incorporate the incident, signaling Elsie’s willingness to confront public scrutiny.
Libby then steers the conversation to Elsie’s father. Elsie stiffens but consents. On record, she states he was never physically violent but preferred mental torment. The team starts recording, positioning the interview to explore Elsie’s upbringing and the roots of her reputation and resilience.
