3 Meryn

Overview

Chaos erupts as a Kryptos thief steals Meryn’s crown during a near-even split among the Bonded. The Dire Blade shatters when blood corruption surges through it, forcing Meryn to rely on her shadow power once Stark retrieves the crown. Her unleashed magic kills many and drives Jonah to flee, leaving allies awed and afraid. Meryn asserts limited command, then collapses in private, shaken by what she has done.

Summary

As factions form around the arena platform, a Kryptos woman materializes, rams Anassa, and steals Meryn’s Sturmfrost crown. Meryn’s fall leaves her weakened, while Stark and Cratos pursue the thief. Jonah’s prepared teams close in, and hesitant onlookers hold back, waiting to choose a side. Meryn and the Strategos form a defensive ring and engage, trading brutal blows as Daemos attacks behave oddly, sometimes rebounding on their casters.

Pressed by mounting casualties, Meryn attempts to stop the fighting by plunging the Dire Blade into the earth and issuing a mental command. Her blood-red bracelet flares, corruption floods the link, and the ancient sword shatters into fragments. With the wolves converging, Meryn decides the crown is essential to turn the tide.

Across the arena Stark devastates opponents with a massive Daemos collapse of an exit arch, then kills the Kryptos thief and returns the crown to Meryn. As the opal settles on her brow, shadows awaken; the arena dims and the power coils around her arms. Jonah’s allies charge, and at Stark’s urging Meryn unleashes a wave of shadow that seizes multiple riders and wolves.

The shadows constrict beyond her intent, silencing screams and snapping necks. A dozen enemies drop dead. Horrified, Meryn halts pursuit and orders Jonah’s fleeing remnants left to run. Stark directs the Phylax to move bodies while Meryn, shaken, vows Jonah will face justice and promises deployment orders after consulting leadership. The Bonded bow but radiate fear at her power.

Leaving the arena, Meryn maintains composure until hidden from view. In Stark’s office she collapses, tormented by the deaths and the corruption tainting their magic. Rejecting comfort, she spirals into self-recrimination and pain, striking the floor until her fists bleed—so consumed she doesn’t hear the door slam open.
