Overview
Meryn learns Killian leads a larger force toward Blumenfall, forcing a decisive confrontation. She sends Lucien to protect the unconscious Venna back to Astreona. In a pivotal trust exchange, Lucien gives Meryn his two Tears, vastly increasing her power. The group rests as Meryn steels herself to confront and kill Killian.
Summary
Meryn learns from Egith that Killian himself leads a massive force, while the group that attacked them was only a vanguard. Fearing for the Bonded and civilians in the fiefdom, Meryn decides to stop running and confront him at Blumenfall. Anassa presses for rest after Linsfall’s ordeal, and Meryn grudgingly agrees.
Meryn confronts Lucien about trust and asks him to take the unconscious Venna to Astreona for protection. Despite concern over power balance, Lucien prioritizes Venna’s safety and agrees, describing how he will travel fast on foot and guide her through the Siphon transition without bloodshed.
To ensure Meryn is as powerful as possible against Killian, Lucien removes his opal necklace and crown, giving her both Tears. Meryn accepts and promises to return them. Lucien carefully lifts Venna and, with Elias, departs through the woods, treating her with reverence.
Meryn organizes a brief camp: Noemi coordinates hunting with Ephyse; Cratos searches for water; Anassa urges food, washing, and sleep. Meryn doubts the plan but Anassa assures her that Killian will be unprepared for Meryn’s new power. Meryn resolves to strike swiftly so Killian cannot adapt.
As exhaustion takes hold, Meryn settles to rest, solidifying her intent: she will speak to Killian one final time to get close—then kill him.
