Summary
Meryn and Stark ride quietly to the Siphon front, letting patrols see their queen before crossing into enemy territory under Meryn’s shadow rifting. They silently eliminate sentries to preserve surprise, then race into the camp at dawn, cutting through disoriented Siphons.
At a central clearing, Meryn attempts shadebending as Stark and their wolves, Anassa and Cratos, hold attackers back. Struggling under Siegrid’s methods, Meryn heeds Anassa’s counsel to wield her anger. Rage unlocks a torrent of shadows, but the power threatens to overwhelm her control.
Reaching for Stark, Meryn forges a sudden, impossible shadow link that fuses their minds and fury. Through this bond, they channel and tame the darkness together, unleashing crushing pressure that shatters armor and skulls across a wide radius, leaving the camp eerily still.
Exhausted, they assess the devastation as distant Siphons reorganize. When Meryn tries to summon the power again, her strength falters—yet the enemy unexpectedly withdraws, reforming away from them.
A white flag approaches. General Ruby Navarro, gleaming and composed, presents herself as King Lucien Brightbane’s ambassador. She declares Astreona seeks a ceasefire with Nocturna, proposing alliance against a common enemy: Alistair Brightbane. The offer contradicts the war’s history and leaves Meryn and Stark wary but confronted with a seismic shift.
