Overview
Meryn enters the shadow realm, manipulates Killian by feigning loyalty, and promises to come to him at Blumenfall. She lies about killing Lucien and surrendering powerful artifacts to earn Killian’s trust. After waking, Stark steadies Meryn; they share an intimate night that reinforces their bond. At dawn, Anassa signals the imminent confrontation.
Summary
Meryn awakens in the living darkness of the shadow realm, recognizing it as Nocturn’s domain and a place Killian exploits. When Killian appears, Meryn performs vulnerability to disarm him, claiming she acted against his orders only to secure a Tear and keep it safe for him.
To seal the ruse, Meryn lies that she killed Lucien and now holds both crowns, the Linsfall Tear, and necklaces of power, insisting they will reveal their strength to Killian. She further offers to deliver Anassa’s mate and rider, pressing the illusion of ruthless devotion. Killian, satisfied, kisses her, declares love, and orders her to come to him outside Blumenfall at dawn. Meryn agrees, inwardly praying the plan holds.
Waking shaken, Meryn finds Stark watching over her. He wordlessly offers comfort, then insists she bathe at a nearby hot spring. Their playful defiance turns intimate, and Stark’s firm caretaking grounds Meryn, easing the pain of the encounter with Killian. The night becomes a deliberate act of connection before the risks ahead.
Afterward, they return to camp and sleep. With sunrise, Meryn contemplates Stark’s potential to heal and her own fears about success or loss. Anassa gently rouses her and confirms what Meryn already knows: it is time to move toward the confrontation at Blumenfall.
