Summary
Outside the Hollywood Roosevelt after midnight, Holland St. James meets the Professor, who sits primly beside the Charlie Chaplin statue. The Professor states she knows Holland doesn’t have the Alchemical Heart and explains that, with November begun, the Heart has hidden again until the next date.
The Professor appears unruffled, offering Holland a ride and reiterating her job offer at the Bank, though she can no longer promise “a very good ability.” Holland, privately confident she will soon have her own ability, declines the ride.
Holland considers rejecting the job outright but tells the Professor she’ll think about it. Despite everything that changed tonight, Holland remains unable to close the door on the mystery, leaving possibilities open.
