Chapter Thirty-Four
Overview
During a stormy afternoon, Theo meets a heavily sedated Alicia for what he believes is their final session. He tells her therapy has been terminated after the Elif incident and vents his frustration. Instead of speaking, Alicia gives Theo her diary, a pivotal invitation to finally understand her truth.
Summary
As a thunderstorm rages, Theo waits in the therapy room, defeated by the decision to end Alicia’s treatment after the attack on Elif. Yuri escorts in Alicia, who appears pallid and trembling, and Theo blames Christian for overmedicating her.
Theo speaks clearly, apologizing for Alicia’s seclusion and informing her that their therapy has been terminated. He invites Alicia to explain the attack and express remorse, then admits his anger and disappointment that their work is ending and that Alicia “didn’t try harder.”
Alicia finally meets Theo’s eyes but remains silent. As Theo falters, Alicia extends a shaking hand, offering a small leatherbound notebook.
Theo takes the notebook and realizes it is Alicia’s handwritten journal, its late entries chaotic and nearly illegible. Without words, Alicia makes her intent clear: she wants Theo to read it.
