Overview
Theo informs Professor Diomedes that Alicia has spoken, prompting Diomedes to push for an immediate formal review. Theo resists, insisting on caution to protect Alicia’s fragile progress. Diomedes agrees to shield Theo from administrative fallout and urges him to continue treatment. In their next session, Alicia talks extensively, and Theo documents everything.
Summary
The chapter opens with Theo telling Professor Diomedes that Alicia has finally spoken. Diomedes is astonished and immediately credits Theo, while Theo downplays the moment, warning the progress could reverse.
Diomedes proposes a rapid formal review with a panel, but Theo argues this could frighten Alicia and jeopardize her breakthrough. After initial pushback, Diomedes accepts Theo’s caution, promises to manage Trust politics and Stephanie, and encourages Theo to keep working with Alicia.
In the next session, Alicia speaks continuously, moving from hesitant words to fluent expression. Theo listens, prioritizing her comfort over interruption, and recognizes the significance of the moment.
Afterward, Theo returns to his office and meticulously transcribes Alicia’s account word for word, determined to capture it accurately. He frames what she shared as an incredible story, leaving its credibility for the reader to judge.
