In the Great Hall, Leto sits the Lion Throne while Ghanima stands beside him as Fremen tribes present homage. Their fear stems from Leto’s recent public trials—fire, knives, acids, poisons, summoning a worm, and toppling a Guild frigate—which proved his invulnerability and power.

Jessica, refusing to join the ritual, watches secretly, lamenting the Bene Gesserit failures that doomed Alia while recognizing the twins outmaneuvered the Sisterhood. She cannot accept Paul’s presence speaking through Leto and remains apart.

Stilgar arrives last, offering Ghanima’s old headband. Leto returns a torn strip of Ghanima’s robe, ordering Stilgar to carry it as a lesson in human fallibility, then has Stilgar read the inscription on Muad’Dib’s water. Leto delivers a cryptic teaching on inner and outer mastery, cyclical change, and coming Kralizec, then sends Stilgar back to Sietch Tabr, appointing Gurney Halleck as his advisor to raise a new force.

Declaring himself no longer human and incapable of siring children, Leto unveils his second treachery: he will break Fremen custom by marrying Ghanima, while Farad’n must secretly father the Atreides line.

Farad’n resists, but Leto outlines a millennia-long regime designed to reshape humanity, promising upheaval after peace and hidden spice treasures that will alter power. With Ghanima’s support, Leto renames Farad’n “Harq al-Ada” (Breaking of the Habit) and demands the Sardaukar. Farad’n yields. Leto stages a back-to-back stance with Ghanima, defining their bond and warning Farad’n his back will remain exposed. Leto departs; Ghanima affirms that Leto accepted the necessary agony.
