Leto, captive in Namri’s sietch, recognizes his masked captor as Gurney Halleck. Gurney states he serves Jessica’s plan for Leto’s education and presents a spice essence injector, with Namri poised to kill if needed. Despite Leto’s resistance, Gurney injects him to force a prescient trance—the feared “worm trip.”

As the spice takes hold, Leto’s father-presence promises protection while visions overwhelm him. He experiences collapsing past, present, and future, glimpsing the Butlerian Jihad, mentat axioms, and Ghanima’s future words. He learns “stroboscopic awareness,” accepts the flow of Time, and attains a broadened consciousness where ancestral lives become truly his.

Leto perceives prescience’s boundaries: only powerful local currents can be foretold, not a universal future. He recognizes the dangerous, civilization-shaping force of his “mass experience,” understands why he must conceal it from everyone—including Ghanima—and notes an ultimate ancestor, Harum, as pivotal to distant outcomes.
