Summary
Shrouded in Death Mist, Percy, Annabeth, and Bob push deeper into Tartarus. Percy struggles with the uncanny feel of his corpse-like body and worries the shroud might linger forever. Around them, the landscape pulses with veins under blood-red clouds, and the horizon teems with countless monsters massing near the Doors of Death.
Bob advises silence and leads openly, trusting the Mist to hide Percy and Annabeth. As they enter the milling host, Percy observes violent skirmishes among monsters—empousai feasting, giants brawling, and eidolons possessing Cyclopes. Annabeth questions how Bob can see them despite their concealment; Bob insists friendship makes the difference outside Nyx’s realm.
