Overview

Stranded in the South Wind’s palace, the crew’s repairs stall while tensions rise. Jason confronts Nico about trust and commitment, prompting Nico to vow he’ll guide them to Epirus before leaving for good. The chapter ends with Lord Auster summoning Jason, setting the stage for a crucial negotiation.

Summary

Jason waits at the South Wind’s cliffside palace in North Africa, assessing their dire situation. The venti have grown unreliable, the heat is brutal, and ship repairs crawl along without Leo; Piper, Hazel, Frank, and Coach Hedge struggle to mend the Argo II’s oars and rigging.

Haunted by Khione’s attack, Jason watches the crew persevere despite setbacks. He worries about Reyna’s mission, Leo’s fate, and Percy and Annabeth’s desperate push toward the Doors of Death.

Nico di Angelo arrives, insisting they must leave soon because Percy is close to the Doors. Jason argues that shadow-travel can’t take them all, pressing that they need the South Wind’s aid. Tension flares as Nico’s anger stirs ghostly power; Jason urges trust and challenges Nico to stop hiding and accept help.

Nico regains control, promises to guide them to Epirus and help close the Doors of Death, then states he will leave forever. At that moment, scorching winds blast open the throne room and a voice announces Lord Auster’s summons. Nico slips into the shadows, and Jason heads to face the South Wind.
