LI
Overview
Marooned on Ogygia, Leo survives by building a camp and forging from stray bronze. Calypso grudgingly aids him, and her song powers Leo’s device to glimpse the outside war. After Gaea appears and offers Calypso freedom for Leo’s death, Calypso rejects the bargain and commits to sending Leo back.
Summary
Leo endures his first days stranded on Ogygia, improvising a camp, failing to contact the outside world, and losing track of time. He suspects Khione stranded him deliberately and that the island’s magic blocks escape. Calypso keeps her distance but leaves food and clothes, and Leo puzzles over how to leave.
Leo discovers buried Celestial bronze, thanks Hephaestus, and builds a makeshift forge. Calypso complains about the noise but also brings him durable, fireproof clothes and, despite barbed banter, notices his needs. Leo assembles a bronze mirror linked to the Archimedes sphere to see his friends, though Calypso insists it’s impossible.
Calypso sings a magical song that stabilizes the device, revealing Camp Half-Blood preparing for war, Romans advancing near the Goldsmith Winery harried by the Kerkopes, Octavian unveiling a Roman eagle standard, and Reyna battling through a storm on pegasus. The vision cuts out before Leo can learn more.
Gaea rises from the sand, taunting Leo with doom and offering Calypso freedom, revenge, and even Percy in exchange for Leo’s death. Calypso rejects the offer, wards Gaea away, and concludes that Leo is crucial to the war. She declares they must get Leo back to the Argo II and begins to help him leave.
