Chapter 66

Overview

Ysalte enters the battlefield as an invulnerable goddess, furious that Louis killed Sister Ines, and Samantha’s intervention provokes her into attacking. Carl’s rooftop scheme unexpectedly exposes Amayon at full power, but the result is disastrous because Amayon remains enslaved to Ysalte.

The dungeon converts the crisis into a ten-minute hybrid world quest and final card battle. The stakes become floorwide: if the Cuba crawlers cannot free and empower Amayon before Ysalte leaves, every crawler without keys will die.

Summary

Ysalte manifests from Sister Ines’s dissolved corpse as an invulnerable level-250 deity, sponsored by Pontifex Shine but acting according to her own nature. A temporary effect turns any handled potions into vinegar until Ysalte is banished. The system identifies Ysalte as the Goddess of Hopelessness and Insanity, a feared contender for the Ascendent throne with deep ties to Larracos, Sheol, and Amayon.

Ysalte appears as a small dwarven woman with a pickaxe and confronts Louis for killing Sister Ines, whom Ysalte calls her bard. Louis drops the knife and backs away while Samantha floats between Louis and Ysalte, trying to distract the goddess with forced friendliness. Samantha privately warns Louis to run, and Carl orders Louis to flee down the stairs.

Samantha’s attempt at banter turns insulting when Samantha mentions an old offense involving Ysalte’s child. Ysalte attacks Samantha with the pickaxe, but the blow rebounds harmlessly from Samantha’s doll head and sends Ysalte flying backward. At that instant, time freezes for Carl, Samantha, Ysalte, and the others.

The ceiling and walls collapse as the Madre de Aguas snake shell drops through the building, stripping the hallway into an exposed platform on the thirty-second floor. Carl sees the small automaton from his earlier setup fall onto the snake and trigger a teleportation. Because the snake shell is now exposed to open air, Amayon appears in a vastly larger, full-power form outside the damaged building.

Carl immediately realizes the plan has gone wrong: Amayon is enormous and stronger, but the Enslaved marker remains over him, meaning Ysalte still controls him. The battle expands, freezing crawlers down to the first floor as Imani reports that they have also been added. The old timer disappears, the previous quest completes, and a new ten-minute hybrid world quest begins.

The system explains that Ysalte intends to take Amayon to the Ascendency as her controlled retainer; if she succeeds, every crawler without keys will die. To survive, the Cuba crawlers must help Amayon break free by making him strong enough to begin casting his return-home spell, with a full-power spell potentially saving everyone on the floor. The confrontation becomes a final card battle: Amayon has a short deck with six totems, Ysalte uses an enhanced version of Sister Ines’s deck, and the crawlers must endure because Ysalte cannot be killed.
