Chapter 27

Overview

Carl, Donut, and the Meadow Lark group survive the borough boss fight, gain significant levels, and unlock the stairs to the second floor along with a map item that reveals nearby monster types. Carl chooses not to abandon the elderly survivors, instead planning to scout ahead with Donut and create a safe path for the others.

The transition to the second floor is interrupted by an unexpected teleportation to a luxurious boat-like studio space, where Lexis invites Carl and Donut onto Odette's crawler program. The chapter shifts the story from immediate dungeon survival into a new layer of public attention and media manipulation.

Summary

The final tuskling, a level-eight Tuskling Dominatrix, dies under Brandon's hammer, ending the borough boss fight. The forcefielded stairs open, the party survives, and everyone gains major experience: Carl and Donut reach level 10, Imani reaches level 11, Brandon and Chris reach level 8, Yolanda reaches level 6, and Agatha jumps to level 4 despite barely participating.

Carl returns Agatha's shopping cart and realizes she still has no inventory because she never completed the tutorial. While the Meadow Lark survivors recover, Carl loots the boss drop: a Borough Field Guild that reveals monster types and level ranges in nearby map quadrants, making future exploration safer. Randall, one of the elderly survivors, wanders in after the gate vanishes, and Yolanda rushes to keep him out of the gore-filled arena.

As Carl and Brandon salvage and loot the arena, Brandon explains what his guildmaster told him about the Syndicate seeding and shaping worlds, which may explain why alien monsters wear Earth-style clothing. Carl remains disturbed by the dungeon's rules and by missing map markers for earlier dead crawlers, but he focuses on practical survival and gathers whatever useful materials he can.

At the opened stairwell, Carl asks Donut whether they should stay with Meadow Lark or move on alone. Donut recognizes Carl's guilt before Carl fully admits it, and the two decide on a compromise: they will stay in their own party, scout the next floor, find a safe room, carve a safe route, and then bring the elderly survivors down when possible. Agatha has vanished, likely toward the stairs, so Brandon asks Carl and Donut to look for her.

Carl and Donut descend the ramp expecting the second floor, but the door at the bottom teleports them instead into a plush, blue, boat-like room where Carl's status bars disappear. A woman named Lexis enters and introduces herself as an associate producer for Dungeon Crawler After Hours with Odette. Lexis congratulates Carl and Princess Donut on reaching the second floor and invites them to be interviewed on air, thrilling Donut.
