Chapter 11

Overview

Carl's dynamite clears the trash room but accidentally triggers a boss battle, trapping Carl and Donut with The Hoarder, a level 7 Neighborhood Boss. The fight reveals a disturbing dungeon truth: some monsters may be transformed, terrified humans rather than simple enemies.

Carl and Donut win through desperation, magic missiles, and brutal close combat, but Carl is forced to kill a pleading woman who does not understand what has happened to her. The victory strengthens their party while deepening the horror and moral weight of surviving the dungeon.

Summary

The goblin dynamite detonates as soon as it lands, blasting Carl away from the doorway, splintering the door, and leaving Carl injured but alive. As Carl waits for natural healing instead of using a potion, Carl and Princess Donut enter the smoke-filled room and find it packed with burning garbage and scattered bug corpses.

Carl checks the results of the explosion and discovers major gains: skill upgrades, reward boxes for killing many enemies with one explosive, and nearly enough experience to reach level six. An achievement appears for damaging a dungeon boss, and the room immediately seals itself with a magically reformed door and metal bars, revealing that Carl and Donut have entered a boss lair.

The boss battle begins with loud music and an announcement. A fifteen-foot-tall woman erupts from the trash and is introduced as The Hoarder, a level 7 Neighborhood Boss, a transformed human whose hoarding and isolation have become part of the dungeon. The explosion has already destroyed many of The Hoarder's minions and reduced most of The Hoarder's health, but The Hoarder speaks in Spanish, sounds terrified, and appears confused rather than malicious.

Carl realizes The Hoarder may be an innocent person changed by the dungeon, but Donut attacks because The Hoarder is still dangerous. The Hoarder vomits Scatterers that charge Carl and Donut, forcing Carl to fight bugs in the trash while Donut uses magic missiles and mana potions. Carl finds a chain leash in the garbage, decides there is no safe way to help The Hoarder, and tries to strangle The Hoarder from behind while Donut distracts the boss.

The leash breaks before The Hoarder dies, leaving Carl surrounded by biting Scatterers. Donut resumes firing magic missiles, and Carl kills the remaining brood guardians with the chain wrapped around Carl's fist. With The Hoarder nearly dead, Carl approaches as The Hoarder apologizes in Spanish, speaks of The Hoarder's daughter, and begs to be sent to Jesus.

Carl apologizes and beats The Hoarder to death despite the physical and emotional cost. The boss fight ends, the dungeon declares The Royal Court of Princess Donut the winner, the remaining cockroaches die, the sealed door shatters open, and Carl is left leaning against The Hoarder's corpse, sickened by what happened.
