35. Tessa

Tessa debates powering on her phone after Axel’s recent plea for help regarding Katya. Luka arrives, having sedated Dex with tea so they can leave unnoticed, and invites Tessa to a research meeting about her visions. On the way, Tessa checks on Lange, who reports Corbin is unwell but safe, and notes the relative freedom they now have under Theon’s rule.

At the Arius manor, Theon introduces Razik Greybane and Eliza. Tessa bluntly probes Razik’s lineage, prompting the reveal that Razik’s father was one of Sargon’s sons, making Luka Sargon’s grandson and explaining Luka’s unusual strength. They analyze Tessa’s powers: Zinta foresight has merged with Serafina’s dream-walking, causing Tessa’s visions to pull others into them—specifically Luka, whom Tessa subconsciously trusts most. They cannot yet place all her Arius gifts or the source of her weather control, which Theon suspects ties to Tessa’s mother.

Theon shares alarming news: Axel is transitioning into a Night Child and has left with Katya, likely to the Underground. Tessa is relieved Axel will no longer be Legacy—removing him from those she might have to kill—while Theon vows to bring them home safely.

Back in Faven, Luka withdraws, shaken by his divine heritage. Reading his need for distraction, Tessa chooses to initiate intimacy. She secures Theon’s bond-approval to avoid violating Luka’s loyalty, then she and Luka engage sexually, using consent and control to soothe and connect. Afterward, Tessa asks him to stay; they Travel to her rooms so Dex won’t panic, and she acknowledges she no longer has to face her burdens alone.
