Overview
On a storm-lashed battlefield, Tessa confronts a wounded Theon while Tristyn, Axel, and Katya urge restraint and reinterpretation of prophecy. Convinced Luka is gone and that balance demands sacrifice, Tessa rejects them, kisses Theon goodbye, and kills him with a gold dagger, committing herself to wrath as Chaos approaches.
Summary
Amid thunder and rain on a scorched battlefield, Tessa stands over a wounded Theon, gold dagger in hand. Tristyn lies bound in light, warning that killing Theon fulfills a prophecy. Axel arrives with Katya, urging Tessa to redefine fate, and a powerful disembodied voice reminds her that her choices can alter history.
Convinced by betrayal and half-truths that only balance through sacrifice will free her from Devram, Tessa rejects their appeals. She accuses Theon and Tristyn of manipulation, insists Luka was always meant to be hers, and admits her Hunters killed Auryon to protect her “destiny.” Theon apologizes and refuses to let Tessa be the cost for balance.
When Tessa senses only Theon through their bond and cannot feel Luka, she concludes Luka is gone. Grief hardens into fury as she lists mounting sacrifices—Corbin, Lange, Auryon, Cienna—and accepts that vengeance is all that remains. Theon warns their queen will retaliate without limit; Tessa welcomes it.
Accepting they are out of time, Theon confesses his feelings. Tessa returns his kiss, apologizes for not giving him all of herself, then drives the gold dagger into his chest, declaring only one can remain when Chaos comes. She chooses wrath, setting the stage for unbound retribution and an oncoming confrontation with Chaos.
