Overview
Tessa and Theon collide in a charged, clandestine encounter where Tessa admits their tie is more than a bond, even as fate and Matches loom. Back in Faven, Tessa rejects Rordan’s surveillance by subduing Oralia, while Luka offers patience and support. A harrowing vision reveals Achaz’s betrayal and his plan to erase Tessa, pushing her to choose defiant uncertainty over submission.
Summary
In a hidden alcove after the gala, Theon offers Tessa anything she wants, and their need erupts into a fierce, consensual encounter. As their magics intertwine, Tessa confesses their connection is more than a bond and calls Theon her “source” of both pain and desire. Theon shelters her with shadow wings and vows to give her what she needs, but fate and Matches—Felicity for Theon and Liam for Tessa—threaten their future.
After, Theon resolves to return first and urges Tessa to come when ready. Instead, Tessa withdraws to a balcony and later is escorted back to Faven. Disoriented, she spirals until Luka grounds her through their bond.
Oralia barges in to enforce the Achaz Lord’s order that someone watch Tessa. Tessa chokes Oralia with light, drains at her magic to test it, and declares she will not be detained unless the Achaz Lord comes himself. She arms a light-whip and expels Oralia, reclaiming autonomy.
Exhausted, Tessa changes and crawls into bed. With gentle candor, Luka urges her to face truths about her identity, purpose, power, and tangled loyalties. He promises he and Theon will wait while she chooses—whether one, both, or neither.
Tessa then experiences a vivid vision: riding Theon’s stallion Eyal with wolves Nylah and Roan as Hunters close in. Achaz appears, praising her for serving his aims and revealing he never meant to reunite her with her mother. Declaring Tessa cannot be allowed to exist, he moves to “correct the balance.” Choosing defiance over erasure, Tessa spurs Eyal and leaps with the wolves into the abyss.
