16. Luka

Luka lets Tessa sleep, texts Theon, and meets him in Luka’s living room. They discuss Tessa agreeing to train, Axel likely hiding in the Underground, and Theon’s plan to verify a Leisure District residence. Theon intends to take Tristyn Blackheart, leaving Luka to guard Tessa.

Theon reveals Razik Greybane and Eliza arrived from Scarlett and Sorin’s world, and Razik may be Luka’s brother and a Sargon Legacy. Luka struggles with possessiveness from his Guardian bond and dragon instincts.

Tessa wakes, asks about Roan, and calmly questions Auryon’s claim that Roan and Nylah are Trackers. Theon explains Trackers—immortal, Travel-capable pairs tethered to the Firsts—likely tether to Tessa. Tessa mutters about a bargain and balance, then asks if Roan can return with her.

When Theon’s gentle touch triggers Tessa’s power, Luka shields him. Tessa insists she cannot stay, requests clothes, and accepts food. Theon fetches her clothing, gives Luka his onyx ring, updates Roan’s status as stable in the kennels, and departs for the Acropolis to meet Razik and Eliza.

Alone with Luka, Tessa bristles at being expected to soften toward Theon, but eats. Luka confirms he will train her despite the risks. They plan to see Roan, then leave. Tessa declares she has nowhere else until she fulfills her purpose, while Luka grows more attached, unwilling to give up what feels his.
