32. Luka
Overview
Tessa lies unconscious for two days after drinking overly strong tea, during which Luka is pulled into her dire vision of a Night Waters battle where Tessa and Theon are stabbed and Luka never arrives. A priestess, likely Elowyn, interferes with the visions.
Theon secures passes to the Ekayan Catacombs to investigate the visions. Tessa wakes weakened and sends Luka to research despite Dex’s control, signaling fragile cooperation and urgent stakes.
Summary
Luka keeps vigil over an unresponsive Tessa for hours while Dex refuses to leave. Neither Luka nor Theon can feel Tessa through their bonds. A raven-haired, violet-eyed priestess storms in to scold Dex for letting Tessa drink overly concentrated tea, hinting at “adjustments for the other,” before leaving. When Tessa briefly opens glowing eyes and bids Luka to “walk my dreams,” she pulls him into a vision.
In the vision at the Night Waters in Arius Kingdom, Nylah and Roan battle as the Augury clash with Tessa’s Hunters. Theon fights with lethal skill and darkness, shielding Tessa while she compensates for poor sword form with lightning. Tessa insists Luka won’t come due to his anger; Theon insists Luka will.
Night Children join, overwhelming the field. A crimson-bladed, gold-hilted sword pierces Tessa from behind; Theon kills the attacker but cries for Luka. A Hunter then stabs Theon in the back. Luka, unseen, cannot intervene and is wrenched from the vision by the same priestess.
Tessa sleeps nearly two days while Dex checks hourly. Luka and Theon coordinate via their bond; Theon secures same-day passes to the Ekayan Catacombs to research Tessa’s visions and why Luka was pulled into them. Tessa finally wakes weak and thirsty; Luka tends her and explains the priestess intervened in the visions.
Tessa suspects the priestess is Elowyn. Learning of the catacombs plan, Tessa doubts she’ll be allowed but agrees the research is vital. Dex returns; Tessa pointedly rebuffs him and goes to shower. Over the bond, Tessa tells Luka to go gather information. Luka leaves reluctantly, feeling both responsibility for Tessa and a deeper, unspoken claim.
