Overview
After Allie survives an attack by summoning King Sorrow, she warns Donna to flee. Donna evades potential tails, suspecting Van’s book exposed them. Colin calls from a secure line, instructs strict tradecraft, and sets a daily 6 p.m. rendezvous at a question-mark streetlamp. Donna destroys her phone and escapes into the subway.
Summary
Donna receives an urgent call from Allie, who, after being targeted by men with a syringe, pulled King Sorrow through and left multiple attackers dead along with exploding cars. Allie warns Donna not to go to work and to assume more hunters are out there, including a man Allie recognizes from the Greenland FBI interviews.
Donna leaves the office tower area, scanning for tails as she moves, and debates whether the threat extends to her. Allie insists Donna is exposed by Van’s book, which named them. Donna changes direction, commandeers a cab, and deliberately swaps vehicles and sides of the street to shake any followers while heading toward Washington Square.
On the way, Donna considers the media implications of the Brooklyn blast and her missed editorial meeting, then reflects on Colin’s tech savvy and history with surveillance and security. At the park, Colin calls from a secure line, warns that her phone is likely tapped and trackable, and instructs her to ditch it. He cancels the Arch meet and sets a new protocol: a rendezvous at the streetlamp shaped like a question mark at 6 p.m. daily for a week, with pay phones only for emergencies.
Donna ejects the SIM, breaks the Nokia, and discards both while staying in motion. With no visible tail, she heads to the Washington Square subway entrance and runs down into the station, committing to Colin’s plan and the covert meetup amid an active manhunt.
