Overview
The 747 lurches as Horation and Heck struggle, but Allie abandons the fight to assess the larger threat. From an exit hatch she witnesses F-16s engage King Sorrow; a Sidewinder missile hits, and the dragon appears to fall. The airliner begins a rapid descent, shifting the crisis toward survival and pursuit.
Summary
The 747 banks hard, throwing Horation and Heck into the footwell where they grapple, Horation pummeling Heck with his gun hand. Allie stabilizes at the upper deck exit and glimpses an F-16 knifing through cloud, its cannon and missiles visible as it howls past.
Rather than dive into the struggle, Allie chooses survival and information. She runs past the crouching blond flight attendant and bounds downstairs, intending to reach the cockpit, then realizes the jet is already in a rapid descent and the flight deck is likely locked.
Dragged by another tilt, Allie reaches a lower exit hatch to see what hunts them. Lightning exposes King Sorrow’s immense form in the storm, a sight that steals her breath and confirms the threat is real and near.
An F-16 streaks after the dragon and fires a Sidewinder. The warhead blossoms against King Sorrow, briefly illuminating his colossal wings, tail, and crowned head before the glow gutters. In the fading light Allie sees King Sorrow corkscrew earthward, seemingly felled, as the 747 continues its steep descent.
