9. Eden
Overview
Eden is detained after confronting an impostor in her home. Seeking proof, she calls Harrison, who pointedly fails to recognize her and sides with police. Facing arrest, Eden steals the officer’s keys and escapes, deciding to reclaim her identity herself. The betrayal escalates the identity crisis and stakes.
Summary
Eden argues with a young officer at the station, insisting she is the true owner of Spyglass and that an impostor has taken her place. Realizing she needs outside confirmation, she calls the one number she trusts: Harrison’s.
Harrison answers amid party noise from Eden’s own exhibition and asks the officer if “they” have found her, revealing alignment with the impostor. When Eden speaks, Harrison claims not to recognize her voice. Sergeant Carter seizes the phone, apologizes to Harrison, and begins cautioning Eden for detention.
Devastated by Harrison’s betrayal and the looming night in a cell, Eden cries until Carter leaves to fetch tissues. She promptly takes his car keys and slips out of the station.
Outside, Eden throws Carter’s keys into the harbor to delay pursuit, then runs uphill toward Spyglass, determined to prove her identity and confront whoever has replaced her.
