28. Birdy

Birdy, shaken by a health episode after reading Harrison’s interview transcript, resolves to pursue answers. She leaves Sunday with Maddy at The Smuggler’s Inn and summons Sergeant Carter, insisting they meet at Spyglass. Birdy asserts control, framing Harrison as the common link between two conflicting Edens and both disappearances.

At Spyglass, Birdy notes Harrison’s composed demeanor and active work Zoom despite his wife’s possible death. She disarms him with a polite yet forceful reset, asking about the move to Hope Falls, Eden’s fixation on the sea, and Harrison’s role as CEO of Thanatos. Harrison offers a polished description of the company, and Birdy gauges his reactions and intentions.

Birdy requests Eden’s phone and then Harrison’s. Harrison unexpectedly complies. Reviewing his texts to Eden the night of the exhibition, Birdy finds it suspicious he sent loving messages when he claimed they were together afterward, suggesting foreknowledge or image management. She asks to search the house; Harrison agrees, stating he has nothing to hide.

Birdy internally marks this as his first lie, cementing her suspicion that Harrison is concealing critical information while she tightens control of the case’s direction.
