19. Eden
Overview
Eden, shaken by Gabriella’s sudden speech accusing the caregiver of not being her mother, panics and flees into the night. Stranded, she finds a hidden phone and a message—apparently from Harrison—summoning her to their cliffside “special place.” Eden goes, questions her trust in him, and is pushed from the cliffs, dying on the rocks below. Her murder escalates the conspiracy surrounding the impostor and deepens the mystery of who orchestrated her death.
Summary
After Gabriella whispers, “She is not my mother,” and then smiles unsettlingly, Eden panics. Overwhelmed by fear and guilt, Eden flees The Manor, races down the stairs at midnight, and drives into Blackmoor, desperate for escape and clarity.
Her electric car runs out of charge on a dark, empty road. Freezing and alone without her own phone, Eden discovers a cheap phone sealed in a plastic bag in the glove compartment. A text—signed with Harrison’s familiar phrase—directs her to meet at their cliffside “special place” at sunrise.
At dawn, Eden sees Hope Falls nearby and runs to the cliffs, clutching the burner phone but unable to get a signal. She waits, conflicted over whether to trust Harrison yet clinging to the hope that he still loves her. She steps back from the edge after noticing a suicide hotline poster, deciding they should meet somewhere safer.
As Eden turns to leave, someone approaches from behind and pushes her. She falls through the waterfall and smashes onto the rocks below, experiencing a flash of pain and the thought that “True love kills” before she dies. The attack transforms her flight for safety into a murder that amplifies the mystery surrounding the impostor and those manipulating events.
