22. Harrison
Overview
After Sergeant Carter informs Harrison that Eden likely killed herself, Harrison unravels in private but forces himself into CEO mode. He fixates on optics and control, notices Eden’s rings abandoned, and decides to go to the police. He wants the truth found but fears exposure of Eden’s secret.
Summary
Harrison reels after Sergeant Carter’s news that Eden likely took her own life. Alone, he hallucinates Eden in the kitchen, drops his coffee, and cuts his foot on shattered porcelain, symbolizing his loss of control. He worries about the questions asked by a younger officer but reassures himself he is not a suspect.
His instincts as a CEO surface as he considers calling his PA to manage appearances, yet he recognizes leaving Hope Falls would look wrong. He struggles with the role he is expected to play—fearless, powerful, honest—while feeling none of those things.
Determined to regain composure, Harrison showers, shaves, and dons his favorite suit as armor. He notices Eden’s wedding and engagement rings left on the bedside table, a tangible sign feeding the suicide narrative and his dread.
Resolving to act, Harrison heads to the village police station. Though he would prefer Eden’s secret remain hidden, he tells himself he wants the truth and for the police to find her, revealing his conflict between damage control and genuine concern.
