5. Eden

Overview

Eden hides outside her home, then follows Harrison and the impostor to the gallery hosting her debut show. There, the impostor publicly claims Eden’s identity, work, and marriage, with Harrison’s support. Eden attempts to intervene, but the police officer from earlier stops her, escalating the conspiracy against her.

Summary

In the freezing dark outside her home, Eden hides after fleeing from the earlier confrontation, trying to comprehend why Harrison denied knowing her and who the woman claiming to be her is. Lacking phone, money, or ID, Eden watches as Harrison and the impostor leave in his car, and she trails them on foot.

Eden descends to the harbor and heads to the Saltwater Gallery, hoping to salvage her debut exhibition. The gallery is crowded, and just as she arrives, the room quiets for a speech. Through the window, Eden sees the impostor—older, confident, dressed in Eden’s black velvet dress—holding a champagne glass and Harrison’s hand.

An organizer introduces the impostor as “Eden Fox.” The woman delivers a warm speech thanking the town, the gallery, and “my Harri,” claiming the seascapes as her own and positioning herself as both the artist and Harrison’s wife. The crowd applauds while Harrison beams proudly, deepening Eden’s shock and sense of betrayal.

Determined to stop the deception, Eden pushes through the crowd to confront Harrison and the impostor. Before she reaches them, the same police officer from earlier seizes her arm and tells her it’s time to go, cutting off her attempt and tightening the web isolating her from her identity, artwork, and husband.
