48. Harrison
Overview
Harrison reflects on his responsibility for Gabriella’s past accident and fears losing everything after a recent misstep. When The Manor reports that police questioned Gabriella, Harrison explodes at the staff and blames Sergeant Carter. Determined to protect his daughter and control the narrative, he resolves to take matters into his own hands.
Summary
Harrison narrates a lifetime of misjudgments, centering on the day Eden phoned to say Gabriella was missing. He recalls calling the police, arriving at the hospital, and seeing Gabriella injured. He fixates on the bike he gifted for her eighth birthday and his decision to delay removing the training wheels, blaming himself for what followed.
He admits he should not have trusted Eden to care for their daughter, though he also concedes Eden’s grief. Now, after a recent unnamed mistake that began with a forbidden kiss and spiraled into jealousy, Harrison hides at Spyglass with doors locked and blinds drawn, fearing the collapse of his company, Thanatos, and the futility of his sacrifices.
A call from The Manor jolts him into action: staff report that police interviewed Gabriella. Outraged, Harrison argues that Gabriella is legally eighteen but still a child, insists there should have been no visitors without his consent, and blames Sergeant Carter for overstepping. Cutting the call, he rejects police involvement, resolves to intervene personally, and commits to protecting Gabriella his own way.
