Kellan arrives exhausted, mentions a failed rebel-bar raid where Henry was seen leaving, and confirms rebels tried to bomb the Blood Well. Harlow withholds details about the burned rebel note, prioritizing her plan against Rafe.

They theorize that contamination, not cumulative magic use, drives the madness. Harlow reveals the Mountain Well, and together they hypothesize a connected flow among Mountain, Blood, and Family wells. Seeking records, they consult Louisa Carrenwell’s hand-drawn city histories and locate maps marking wells and early water channels, with a no-build zone east of South Hold that could indicate runoff into the Drained Wood.

Kellan resolves to send a team to scout near the eastern no-build boundary for signs of contamination. Harlow recalls a painting titled Stellaria’s Deathless and leads Kellan to the stairwell outside the Cove, where the artwork triggers vivid memories of her father’s abuse.
