26. Harlow

Harlow takes refuge from the ballroom’s scrutiny in a preparation room where a servant, Cora, helps her change into a red slip and explains the blood-bind: Harlow must cut her palm on Kennymyra’s headboard sigil, and its golden glow will mark the Divine’s favor. Harlow deflects talk of Henry’s reputation and, despite nerves and unresolved hostility, steels herself for the public rite.

In the antechamber, Gaven asks to remain nearby out of concern, but Harlow orders him to keep away and use the chance to snoop. She enters the candlelit ceremony room, facing masked witnesses and a bed bearing Kennymyra’s sigil. Henry, in a red robe, kisses and positions her while checking consent and posturing with possessive remarks; Harlow pushes back verbally, seeking leverage in their charged dynamic.

The ritual proceeds as agreed: Henry shields her modesty when possible yet escalates with rough tenderness that unsettles Harlow precisely because she likes it. He brings her to the edge with mouth and hands; at the peak she presses her palm to the sigil, bleeding for the offering. Henry then penetrates her, alternating control and softness, deliberately pacing her toward climax while ensuring he can finish inside as required by the rite.

Wrestling with the pressure of an audience and fear of failing the Divine, Harlow finally lets go when Henry reassures her she is safe. She climaxes powerfully while touching the sigil, and Henry follows, biting her shoulder as he spills inside her. The sigil flares gold and cracks, a startling sign of excess vitality and Kennymyra’s favor. The crowd murmurs, then applauds.

After Henry orders everyone out, he and Harlow note the broken sigil piece as proof of an unprecedented offering. He declares the ritual a triumph; Harlow allows his satisfaction, privately vowing the sigil will be the first of many things she breaks to get what she wants.
