Summary

Harlow, injured and trapped in the Raining Star with Stefan, Joe, and Roland, keeps them between her and a disturbing, speech-capable Breeder. Henry arrives, confronting the monster as it taunts him. The Breeder seizes Roland and kills him before turning on Henry.

Seizing an opening, Harlow fights Stefan and moves to poison-kiss him but is attacked by Joe. Overwhelmed by a flash of consuming rage, Harlow blanks out and comes to with her blade in Joe’s throat. She dislocates Stefan’s shoulder, unlocks the barred door, and signals Gaven.

Gaven and Carter enter; Gaven unleashes blue holy fire, reducing the Breeder to ash. Henry checks Harlow and learns the blood is Joe’s. Harlow kisses Henry to stop him from revealing her poison method, confirming Henry’s immunity. Gaven discloses a Vardek sigil branded into his arm that grants conditional holy fire to protect Harlow.

Amid concerns over scandal, the group debates a believable explanation. To protect Henry’s standing, they decide on a cover story: Harlow lured Stefan to a secluded spot while Joe and Roland stood guard; the Breeder escaped and chaos ensued, aligning with the scene’s evidence. Gaven escorts Harlow back to Havenwood House.

Alone, Harlow endures a delayed panic attack in the bath, grappling with fear, homesickness, and the frightening blankness during Joe’s killing. Henry bursts in, confronts her reckless risks, and then heals her cut and ribs, intensifying their charged dynamic. Despite his demand that she sleep in his bed, Harlow refuses and shuts him out, choosing her own space.
