41. Harlow

Harlow enters Bea’s room to find Henry waiting while Shane, tied to a chair, panics. Henry confronts Harlow over bringing a man upstairs; Harlow presses Shane for details about Rochelli and the missing women, using Henry’s menace to push the interrogation forward.

Shane admits he’s a small courier for rebels, recruited after public objections to the blood tax. He describes receiving rotating mailbox numbers and combinations, dropping supplies across the city, and hearing drunken talk that the missing women are not random victims but “payment” to stave off the Drained. He has a note from Rochelli stating this.

Harlow retrieves the note, but Henry snatches it, then drops it into the fire while catching Harlow as she stumbles. The only hard evidence burns. Tension spikes as Henry questions Harlow’s methods and jealousy flares; Harlow, still seeking information, continues to leverage Shane’s loose tongue while Henry exerts controlling dominance.

In a charged, coercive display meant to humiliate Shane and reassert control, Henry pushes Harlow toward climax, then stops and orders her to charge her poison. He forces her poisoned fingers into Shane’s mouth. Shane realizes too late and dies quickly, destroying a potential source.

Afterward, Harlow berates Henry for eliminating their lead; Henry claims he can recall the note’s wording and apologizes for the fumble. He frees the bindings, covers Harlow with his coat, and insists they leave before the poisoned death exposes them, the conspiracy’s implications now heavier and their volatile bond further complicated.
