Summary
At a crowded pub, Henry tries to cool off after Harlow spends the afternoon barricaded in the newly gifted safe room. Carter and Bryce tease him about the intense wedding ceremony, provoking Henry’s jealousy and a firm declaration that Harlow is off-limits.
To change the subject, Henry reveals Harlow’s secret: she kills abusers in Lunameade. Carter connects this to rumors of the Poison Vixen pursued by Kellan’s guards. Henry explains Harlow’s motive—her sister’s husband, Mayor Rafe Mattingly, abuses her but is too public to strike—casting Harlow as a vigilante rather than a thrill killer.
They debate who orchestrated Henry and Harlow’s first meeting. Henry suspects the Carrenwells, but Carter challenges the logic, and Bryce argues the rebels likely engineered the chaos to pit factions against each other. The talk stirs Henry’s grief and memories of Holly’s values, making Harlow’s mission uncomfortably admirable.
Gaven arrives, urgent, to report Harlow has slipped out. He and Henry clash over who can protect her. Gaven warns that Harlow is the most dangerous person in any room. In the argument, Henry carelessly mentions Harlow’s scar, risking her trust, and admits there’s a hidden passage from his room she may have found.
Racking his memory, Henry recalls mentioning storytellers while giving Harlow part of her wedding present. He concludes she likely went to the Raining Star Bar on the fourth level. Henry bolts into the night, with Carter, Bryce, and Gaven following, racing to find Harlow before anything goes wrong.
