Fate Divided

Overview

On the war’s dawn, the oracle reveals Isla must kill either Oro or Grim, splitting fate in two. The battle ignites across the Mainland: Isla leads the trap, restrains Cleo, and unleashes devastating Wildling and shadow power. Dreks turn the tide, Ciel dies, and a serpent-woman joins. Isla withdraws to the bridge to draw Grim—and he arrives.

Summary

At daybreak, Isla visits the failing oracle, who declares fate is split: Isla will kill either Oro or Grim, and her choice will decide the world. Shaken, Isla rides Lynx to the Mainland mustering ground, where Oro, Enya, Skylings, Sunlings, and allies prepare. Oro reassures Isla despite the portal being open; they plan to trap Grim’s army and block access to the Place of Mirrors bridge.

Grim mass‑portals his forces, and war explodes. Oro devastates Nightshades with elemental mastery while Isla, mounted on Lynx, buries enemies and unleashes poison flora. Calder surges as a many‑headed wave, drowning foes. Wounded Lynx triggers Isla’s rage; she shatters terrain and wields trained shadows to cut down attackers, then ports to Sky Isle to bring in the second wave—Vinderland and night creatures under Singrid and Remlar—enclosing the Nightshades.

Cleo arrives atop a colossal swell, freezing the field but sparing lives. Seeking her lost son through the other world’s power, Cleo urges Isla to switch sides. Enya’s flames weaken Cleo’s water shield; Isla roots bind Cleo’s limbs, neutralizing her. Hope rises as Nightshades falter—until dreks flood the sky. Zed and Skylings fell some with metal‑tipped weapons, but casualties mount. A drek impales Ciel; Avel kills it but cannot save her brother despite Isla’s elixir.

As dreks and shadows overwhelm the field, a serpent‑woman ally arrives, crushing Nightshades and striking dreks while Oro, Enya, Zed, and Remlar continue the fight. Even with Azul’s storm fencing the sky, the defense buckles under relentless losses. Realizing the battle must be decided at the portal, Isla rides to the bridge at the Place of Mirrors to draw Grim.

Nightshades flood the approach, but a chilling warning halts them as Grim steps from the shadows, greeting Isla—“Hello, heart”—signaling the confrontation she sought.
