Overview
Isla confronts Cleo to keep Moonlings on Lightlark and secures a tentative commitment during a crisis meeting. As realms mobilize for Grim’s attack in twenty-nine days, Cleo privately reveals her lost son and that the oracle has awakened. Before Isla can reach the oracle, Moonling fleets depart, and Soren asserts they are joining Nightshade, upending alliances.
Summary
Carried by Ciel and Avel, Isla lands on Moon Isle to beg Cleo not to evacuate. She argues Moonlings need Lightlark’s power base and offers Wildling aid—crops and healing elixirs—if Cleo stays. Cleo remains guarded but, moved by Isla’s appeal to protect her people, says she will consider it.
At a council the next morning, Cleo arrives, signaling she has not yet fled. Oro announces Grim will attack in twenty-nine days and pushes for total mobilization. Cleo reports the oracle still frozen and details Moonling healer numbers; Isla commits Wildling elixirs. Azul suggests Grim seeks more than destruction, and Oro vows to defend Lightlark.
That night, Cleo visits Isla privately. She reveals she once had a son, kept hidden during the fourth Centennial, who later died to the curse—explaining her absence and fierce priorities. She claims the oracle has awakened with a message for Isla but declares loyalty only to herself.
The next morning, as Isla and Oro rush to see the oracle, Azul intercepts them and flies the group to the coast. They witness a disciplined Moonling fleet sailing away from Lightlark under Cleo’s command. As islanders watch in shock, Soren concludes the Moonlings are not fleeing but joining Nightshade, shattering hopes of their alliance and threatening the island’s war effort.
